MQM vehemently condemned arrest of Momin Khan Momin, a veteran progressive leader and MQM Coordination Committee (CC) ex-member. The CC Convener Dr Nadeem Ehsan said that the arrested Khan is a patient suffering from cancer and hence is seriously ill. The paramilitary Rangers personnel and Policemen in plain clothes raided his houses located in Karachi’s Gulistan-e Jauhar locality, late night and arrested him along with his young son Mohsin Khan. The paramilitary personnel also took away Mohsin’s cell, his daughter’s cell and a personal file carrying her necessary credentials. The paramilitary Rangers personnel and cops in plain clothes had entirely ransacked his house.
He said that the paramilitary Rangers had arrested 65-year old Khan on Aug 22, 2018 and had taken him to an undisclosed detention centre where he was kept for several days and later was handed to Police and the later on Rangers instructions booked him in fake criminal cases. He was later released on bail from court concerned.
“Momin Khan Momin is seriously ill and his life is in danger under Rangers unlawful detention”, said Dr Ehsan, adding, “he was politically inactive and was bed-ridden owing to cancer he is suffering from.”
The CC Convener said that the demonic military establishment is void of senses of the human rights and has turned blind in enmity towards the MQM. The ghoulish military establishment has accelerated the pace of crackdown against the MQM, Mohajirs since the day they attended a Pashtoon Tahaffuz Movement’s (PTM) protest sit-in at Sohrab Goth against unlawful arrests, detentions without lawful charges, enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings of Pashtoons. Mohajirs had attended their sit-in just to show their solidarity with the Pashtoon aggrieved and affected families under sense of collective human rights.
The Paramilitary Rangers and Police are raiding the houses of MQM workers and are harassing women during raids, he said. Dr Ehsan demanded for immediate release of Khan and his son and all other arrested MQM men, women and youth. He stressed international community and rights organisations especially of the UN to take notice of arbitrary arrests of MQM men, women and youth.
